El único festival competitivo de Latinoamérica reconocido por la FIAPF se realizará del 2 al 12 de noviembre. El director español Juan Antonio Bayona será uno de los principales protagonistas de esta edición, que está dedicada a celebrar los 40 años de democracia en Argentina. Adolfo Aristarain fue reconocido con el Premio Astor a la Trayectoria. Por Nito Marsiglio.
El Ministerio de Cultura de la Nación y el Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA) presentaron la programación de la 38ª edición del Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata, que se realizará del 2 al 12 de noviembre, con el apoyo del Banco de la Nación Argentina. Con 69 años de historia, el Festival se encuentra entre los catorce festivales competitivos reconocidos por la Federación Internacional de Asociaciones de Productores Cinematográficos (FIAPF) en todo el mundo, distinción que comparte, entre otros, con Cannes, Berlin y San Sebastián, además de ser el único en Latinoamérica con esa característica. Acontecimiento cultural fundamental para nuestro país, el Festival propone, como cada año y de acuerdo con su espíritu e identidad, el encuentro entre el mundo del cine y su público.
El evento de presentación –que se realizó en el Auditorio Manuel Belgrano de la Cancillería Argentina– contó con la participación del ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Comercio Internacional y Culto, Santiago Cafiero; el ministro de Cultura de la Nación, Tristán Bauer; el presidente del Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA), Nicolás Batlle; el presidente del Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata, Fernando Juan Lima; el director artístico del Festival, Pablo Conde; la productora general del Festival, Cecilia Diez; el presidente de la Federación Internacional de Asociaciones de Productores Cinematográficos, Luis Scalella; la subsecretaria de Políticas Culturales de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, Victoria Onetto, y la directora de Asuntos Culturales de la Cancillería Argentina, Paula Vázquez; entre otras autoridades, además de representantes de las diferentes ramas de la industria audiovisual.
Tristán Bauer felicitó “a todos los que hacen posible este festival, a sus trabajadores y trabajadoras; nos parece muy hermoso Cine y Democracia en estos cuarenta años. Y que sea el festival y el cine también es un llamado de atención, porque fue complejo y terrible aquel tiempo de la dictadura. Siempre recordamos a Raymundo Gleyzer, a Pino Solanas y a todos los cineastas que fueron llevados al exilio, la tortura y la desaparición”. El ministro de Cultura deseó “que este festival sea una celebración de la democracia, del cine, he recorrido festivales del mundo y sé lo que significa descubrir la cinematografía y esos encuentros que logran que nazcan y florezcan nuevos proyectos”.
Esta edición conmemora los cuarenta años ininterrumpidos de democracia en nuestro país. Con este motivo, la Cinemateca Nacional INCAA y la Biblioteca y Centro de Documentación y Archivo “Beatriz A. Zuccolillo de Gaffet” (ENERC-INCAA) han recuperado del archivo del Ente de Calificación Cinematográfica materiales censurados por la última dictadura cívico-militar, que se exhibirán con el objetivo de echar luz y hacer público aquello que fue prohibido. La digitalización de ese material ha sido realizada por Cubic, Argentina Sono Film y la Sociedad por el Patrimonio Audiovisual. A su vez, se presentará el libro Fundido a negro. Cine y censura a 40 años del retorno de la democracia, con textos que dan cuenta de dichos hallazgos, con la colaboración de autoras y autores como Graciela Borges, Lita Stantic, Manuel Antín, Albertina Carri, Victoria Solanas y Eugenio Zaffaroni.
En la presentación fue reconocido con el Premio Astor a la Trayectoria Adolfo Aristarain, considerado como uno de los mejores directores argentinos de todos los tiempos, que comenzó su carrera en el mundo del cine como guionista y director en la década de 1960. Como parte del homenaje, durante el Festival se podrán ver dos de sus películas, Un lugar en el mundo y Martín (Hache). Para recibir el premio subió al escenario su hijo Bruno, junto a Fito Paez y Osvaldo Papaleo.
“Este es un reconocimiento importantísimo, de parte de un festival magnífico para un artista de fuste. Este premio no es solo para él, sino para la Argentina, porque Adolfo siempre puso sus ideas por delante de las coyunturas. Hoy, su obra cobra un volumen impresionante, es casi un paso obligatorio para todas las personas que aman el cine”, dijo Fito Paéz. En el mismo sentido, Osvaldo Papaleo señaló que “el cine de Adolfo se puede sintetizar en las palabras épica y utopía. Ese es su cine, movilizador de éstas dos cosas que tan bien reflejan a la sociedad argentina”.
La película de apertura será Hombre de la esquina rosada (1962), de René Mugica, basada en un cuento de Jorge Luis Borges. Se verá en su versión restaurada digitalmente en 4K a partir de los negativos originales. Mientras que la función de clausura estará a cargo de Fallen Leaves, el más reciente trabajo del finlandés Aki Kaurismäki.
Durante la presentación, Fernando Juan Lima dijo que “el festival es un espacio de libertad y diversidad, por eso sigue más vivo que nunca y festejamos 40 años de democracia, 40 años sin censura. El Estado debe apoyar, intervenir, pero no puede adueñarse, porque el festival es del pueblo”. Con respecto a las actividades, destacó la presentación de un libro “con testimonios de las personas que vivieron la censura, pero también de aquellos que nos invitan a pensar desde el presente aquellas marcas que la dictadura nos dejó”.
El director artístico, Pablo Conde, contó que para lograr esta programación se recibieron más de cinco mil títulos, “un récord que habla del interés que genera en el mundo nuestro festival y también de la necesidad de contar y de hacer películas ante las circunstancias actuales del mundo. De esos títulos, muchos son nacionales, lo que demuestra el interés real de la industria cinematográfica argentina de estar en Mar del Plata, de poder experimentar la interacción del público con sus películas”.
Esta edición contará con la visita del director español Juan Antonio Bayona –gracias al apoyo de Netflix–, quien recibirá un premio a la trayectoria, presentará su último trabajo sobre la tragedia de los Andes, La sociedad de la nieve, y dará una de las tres Charlas con Maestras y Maestros. También se les rendirá tributo a la trayectoria a la reconocida actriz, directora, guionista y productora argentina Ana Katz y a la Cinemateca Uruguaya –institución fundamental para la cinematografía del continente, fundada en 1952–. Su directora, María José Santacreu, dictará otra de las Charlas con Maestras y Maestros, las cuales incluirán un encuentro destacado con una de las figuras principales de nuestra cultura: la actriz Graciela Borges, quien reflexionará sobre su importante trayectoria.
En su premisa de difundir las miradas más frescas, diversas y heterogéneas, el Festival propone en Panorama y en Autoras y Autores películas tanto de directores y directoras de renombre y trayectoria como de las nuevas generaciones. Es por eso que en las secciones paralelas se podrán ver, entre otros, los más recientes trabajos de Taika Waititi, Yorgos Lanthimos, Bertrand Bonello, Michel Gondry, Hong Sang-soo, Lisandro Alonso, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Víctor Erice, Martín Rejtman, Andrés Di Tella, Edgardo Cozarinsky y Rafael Ferro, Alice Rohrwacher, Gonzalo García Pelayo, Angela Schanelec, Fernando Trueba y Javier Mariscal, Noora Niasari, Laura Ferrés y Liz Lobato.
