Por un instante, olvidémonos de la figura pública, del semblante sereno y decidido que ocupó las portadas de revistas y jornales. Viajemos, en su lugar, hacia la intimidad de una mujer que fue poseedora de un carácter y de una fuerza que trascienden las páginas de la historia. Estamos hablando de Simone Veil, su número 78651 tatuado en el brazo, recordatorio indeleble de un pasado que, por más oscuro que fuera, moldeó la tenacidad de una mujer que se rehusó a ser vencida por las adversidades.
Aquella experiencia en Auschwitz no solo fue el bautismo por fuego de una joven Simone, sino el comienzo de una vida consagrada a la defensa de los derechos humanos, especialmente de las mujeres.
Veil, más que política o activista, fue una guerrera. Una guerrera de las ideas, de las convicciones. Y como toda buena guerrera, entendía que los grandes cambios no se logran con palabras huecas o poses para la cámara, sino con acción, con sacrificio y, a veces, con un poco de rebeldía.
¿Cómo no pensar en su lucha por la legalización del aborto en Francia? En un mundo dominado por hombres, en una época en que la voz femenina era relegada, Veil no solo se atrevió a hablar, sino que hizo eco con una resonancia que pocos podían ignorar.
No se trataba solo de un acto legislativo, sino de un grito de libertad, una reivindicación del derecho de las mujeres a decidir sobre sus propios cuerpos.
