Antes de entregarle el diploma que reconoció al director de cine como Personalidad Destacada de la Cultura, el legislador Roy Cortina, autor del proyecto, afirmó que “Argentina, 1985 ha vuelto a resaltar el valor de nuestra democracia, ejemplificado en el Juicio a las Juntas, como síntesis del cierre de la violencia institucional en nuestro país. Para aquellos que vivimos esa historia es imposible no emocionarnos. Pero su importancia fundamental radica además en el reconocimiento que brinda a las generaciones jóvenes de nuestra historia y a la vigencia esencial de los valores democráticos”.
Con más de un millón de espectadores, la película que protagonizaron Ricardo Darín y Peter Lanzani se convirtió en una de las producciones nacionales más exitosas de los últimos tiempos. Pero el éxito de Argentina,1985 trasciende a lo comercial. Para Mitre, “la película ha abierto los ojos a mucha gente sobre cuestiones que no recordaba”.
“Gracias a todos. Siento que este reconocimiento se lo debo a todos los amigos con los que, prácticamente, hice todas las películas”, dijo Santiago Mitre destacando la labor conjunta a través de los años y nombrando a diversos colaboradores y amigos presentes en la sala, agregando: “Por supuesto a mi compañera, Dolores Fonzi, que además de haber actuado en dos pelìculas se tiene que `bancar` las ciclotimias que significan convivir con un director de cine”, señaló para pasar a agradecer a sus padres presentes en la sala.
